National legislative conferences on press freedom

Panama: February 14
Brazil: May 3
Guatemala/Honduras: junio
El Salvador/Nicaragua: agosto

An open forum on the issues that present challenges to press freedom in each country. The objective is to open and promote a dialogue among legislators, IAPA directors, media lawyers, academics, publishers and citizens on reforms relevant to access to freedom of information, decriminalization of calumnia and other recommendations pertinent to the status of press freedom in each country.

Workshops for Media Lawyers

Panamá: February 13

Guatemala/Honduras: June
El Salvador/Nicaragua: August

A workshop in each country for media lawyers, constitutionalists and publishers to analyze the existing laws that promote or hinder press freedom and prepare recommendations for presentation to legislators.

Emergency Forums: Emergency forums afford an opportunity to address the latest developments in terms of adverse or favorable bills to freedom of the press but also to draw support from the press and public opinion on issues at the heart of the bills. Special meetings will be carried on a basis of need and urgency. missions to countries where press freedom is under peril. These are scheduled on demand.
